Job Description
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a vibrant and motivated Solutions Development Manager to become part of the accomplished team. As part of the Business Development unit, your core responsibilities will involve leading the design of tailored solutions for tender responses, ensuring the delivery of competitive solutions for both warehouse and transport opportunities.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong business acumen in the UK third-party logistics sector, gained through hands-on operational experience. Proficiency in analytical and IT skills is essential for creating detailed cost models and effectively engaging with senior stakeholders and customers.
This role may entail some travel.
We are currently looking to fill two key roles:
- Warehouse Solutions Development Manager
- Transport Solutions Development Manager
Responsibilities:
- Engage directly with customers throughout the tender process.
- Analyze customer requirements, including tender documents and data. Identify business development opportunities within the current operational framework and provide concise summaries. Offer recommendations on the viability of potential new ventures.
- Organize and oversee project and tender responses. Provide input on bid scope. Collaborate with Regional Operations Directors, operational teams, and specialized functions within the organization during all phases of the tender process.
- Devise warehouse and transport solutions incorporating best industry practices, encompassing warehouse processes, layouts, equipment, vehicle routing, IT systems, and management structures.
- Create and implement models to ascertain necessary resources (staff, equipment, facilities, IT, transport, etc.) for financial planning purposes.
- Manage quotations for outsourcing non-core services included in tender scopes.
- Develop profit and loss budgets in collaboration with finance teams.
- Offer detailed financial and operational assessments for alternative solutions, emphasizing potential risks.
- Prepare tender response documents and presentations.
- Assist in crafting company marketing materials.
- Stay updated on industry advancements by joining professional bodies (e.g., CILT), attending industry events, and undergoing training sessions.
- Support the professional growth of other team members within the business development unit.
- Contribute to the successful implementation of new contracts.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in a role focused on logistics solutions design with financial responsibility. Operational experience is advantageous.
- Ability to lead a team through the tender process and deliver high-quality outcomes. Collaborate effectively with other departments such as IT, operations, HR, and facilities management to ensure comprehensive engagement in solution design and tender processes.
- Proficient in advanced Microsoft Office Excel functionalities (macros, pivot tables, data links, lookups, etc.) and adept at handling complex data management.
- Up-to-date grasp of commercial warehouse and transport rates, as well as profit and loss dynamics.
- Confident in engaging with Senior Management, Key Stakeholders, and customers at all levels, including the Board.
- Familiarity with current automation technologies in the market.
- Experience with industry-standard simulation and modeling tools like CAD, CLASS, CAST, and Paragon is beneficial but not mandatory.
