The Sheffield Methods Institute (SMI) is seeking a new research member of staff.

You will join a dynamic community of interdisciplinary academics engaged in cutting-edge research and teaching in social science methods, applied within different disciplines and across disciplinary boundaries.


You will report directly to Dr Andrew Bell, and also work closely with the other grant Co-investigators: Dr Dan Holman (UoS, Dept of Sociology), Dr Clare Evans (University of Oregon), Dr Will Johnson (Loughborough University) and Prof George Leckie (University of Bristol).

There will also be opportunities for collaboration with other Departments and Research Centres in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Sheffield and beyond, including the ESRC Centre for Care, the Healthy Lifespan Institute (HELSI), and the Centre for Multilevel Modelling.


The SMI's research programmes primarily focus on inequality and poverty, social justice and inclusion, social mobility, migration, as well as on methods and methodology.

Currently, our disciplinary specialisms include political science, economics, sociology, geography, and education.
