We are looking for both early career professionals and seasoned soil scientists, as well as individuals with adaptable skills interested in venturing into this vital field. Our focus is on delivering exceptional soil science expertise across a broad spectrum of research initiatives. Initially, a considerable amount of the work will involve organizing and executing fieldwork related to soils.

Position: Scientist specializing in Soil

Salary: Starting from £25,625

Location: Hybrid - BioTech Campus YO411LZ

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible between 7am & 7pm)

Start Date: Immediate, subject to recruitment and onboarding timelines

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting diverse field research including soil sampling, classification, agricultural soil assessments, vegetation surveys, and interviewing land managers.
  • Contributing to research projects of national significance.
  • Engaging in work in beautiful yet occasionally remote locations.
  • Enhancing knowledge in soil science, pedology, agriculture, ecology, and related fields.
  • Collaborating with industry experts in a supportive and dynamic atmosphere.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualifications such as BSc, MSc, or higher in soil science, environmental science, forestry, ecology, physical geography, or agricultural sciences.
  • Demonstrated passion for soil science and associated disciplines.
  • Enthusiasm for field research even in demanding physical conditions and adverse weather.
  • Proficient in data analysis, literature reviews, report writing, and project management with necessary guidance provided when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to adhere to complex survey protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills for overseeing field survey teams.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods during peak survey periods with expenses covered.
  • Possession of a full driving license.
