You will join the Sanctions and Embargoes, a department within AFC that has significantly increased in practical relevancy.


Sanctions & Embargoes is globally responsible, among other things, for monitoring the regulatory situation, publishing relevant regulations in the Bank, maintaining and interpreting the Global Sanctions Policy, technical coordination with the Regional Sanctions Heads and advising the business units and infrastructure functions on embargo-relevant issues.

Your key responsibilities

  • Identification, interpretation and evaluation of new regulatory and compliance standards for purposes of determination of the measures to be taken in one's own field of activity
  • Advising on transactions escalated to the Group Embargo Office, particularly in trade finance, corporate banking, investment banking, securities trading and custody
  • Decision to implement uniform standards in cases escalated by regional Sanctions & Embargoes teams to the global Sanctions & Embargoes team
  • Management of strategic projects in connection with AFC
  • Assessment of highrisk transactions and/or customer relationships and independent presentation of them in senior management bodies such as Reputational Risk Committees and Client Financial Crime Risk Forum

Your skills and experience

  • Qualified lawyer and/or equivalent qualification/work experience in the field of sanctions and embargoes is required
  • Experience in European (EU) and/or law or financial sanctions is highly desirable
  • Experience in government (ministries, agencies or similar) is highly desirable
  • Previous relevant experience in the financial sector or public sector equivalent
  • Fluent German (spoken and written) is desirable and ability to work in a multicultural and crossborder environment
