Due to our sustained growth and expansion throughout 2023, OCU Group now have a new opportunity for an experienced SHE Advisor to join the team in our Iver Office.


The purpose of the role is to provide essential support as part of the wider Health and Safety team and be responsible for providing Health and Safety information, advice and training to all levels and departments within the OCU Business.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Manager and or Head of SHE.
  • Carry out periodic inspections to identify unsafe plant, working conditions and working practices.
  • Report on the result of such inspections and make recommendations to remedy any defects found.
  • Advise on the drawing up and implementation of Safe Systems of Work, Safety Plans and the provision and use of appropriate protective equipment.
  • Participating in the work of safety committees and joint consultations affecting the workforce.
  • Promote and, where appropriate, participate in safety training programmes.
  • Compile reports for reportable accidents/incidents and provide recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation, codes of practice and other guidance supplied by the Health and Safety Manager.
  • Ensure that management are supplied with the necessary safety information to maintain safe working practices to legal standards and industry best practice.
  • Attend precontract meetings.
  • Compile monthly health and safety reports.
  • Ensure that all Safety Alerts /Instructions are communicated to all in a timely manner to ensure improvements are implemented.
  • Promote and actively engage the work force in reinforcing our "Mindset" behavioural programme.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH (General or Construction Certificate).
  • Experience within construction (Utilities experience desirable).
  • Strong understanding of safe working practices and an ability to promote safety culture.
  • Selfmotivated, and able to work on own initiative; enthusiastic with 'can do' attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage potential conflict during site inspections with operational teams.
  • Capable of delivering presentations of a high standard to a varied audience.
  • Good time management skills and able to work to deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Must hold a current UK Driving License.
  • CSCS Card
  • Environmental qualification (Desirable)
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Trainer (Desirable)
  • SHEA Gas (Desirable)
  • Face Fit Tester (Desirable)
  • NRSWA Supervisors
