Aims of the post


To offer support to unpaid carers in Blackpool around their welfare rights, housing, social care, Lasting Power of Attorney, energy and benefits.


JOB PURPOSE


The post holder will provide specialist support to carers and their families to maximise income, navigate services and resolve benefits queries for clients aged 18 years and above across Blackpool.


KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialist support to assist with welfare rights, housing, social care and benefits according to the needs for carers and the people that they cared for. This includes support with claiming entitlements and resolving queries.
  • Provide support around carers and their families through the process for Lasting Power of Attorney.
  • To carry out support via telephone, home visits, office appointments and outreach appointments as appropriate.
  • Provide generalist advice or signposting to a range of services such as social care, housing options and local services to clients in the spirit of offering a holistic support service.
  • To act on behalf of and with permission of the carer/cared for, including correspondence, completing forms and seeking information from third parties.
  • To manage own caseload and appointments with mínimal supervision.
  • To work in close partnership with BCC workers and other external agencies that provide information and advice.
  • To develop and maintain effective relationships with carers/cared for, whilst demonstrating our core values of passion, quality and respect at all times.
  • To adhere to the rules of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act dealing with sensitive personal information.

Recording and Monitoring:

  • To maintain excellent administration and recording on our Harlequin Database system. This includes ensuring that all client interactions are recorded, dealt with and progressed in a timely, satisfactory, professional manner.
  • To ensure that all outcomes are entered into the database.
  • To be able to provide case records, statistics and reports as required in order to prepare and complete relevant monitoring returns and reports required for funders. This will include the provision of data and other information relating to our delivery of the service.
  • To be responsible for own administration, including producing all correspondence associated with the role.

Specialist Knowledge:

  • Remain up to date with relevant welfare rights legislation and wider social welfare information at a specialist level, as well as developing a detailed knowledge about local services, social care and housing options.
  • Keep abreast of training needs to ensure high quality advice and support.
  • Understand the needs of disadvantaged groups and the difficulties that they face in accessing information, advice and support.
  • Respond in a timely, professional and nonjudgemental way to safeguarding disclosures or allegations.

OTHER DUTIES

  • To work effectively with BCC colleagues regarding external communications.
  • Deliver training to staff, partner organisations and carers if required.
  • Attend events, awareness raising opportunities and fundraising activities as required.
