Highly Specialist Psychologist/Applied Psychologist

North East England, United Kingdom Tewv Brits Full time
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Applied Psychologist/Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist to join our multi-disciplinary Durham and Darlington CYPS Community Eating Disorders Service.

The team works with children and young people up to the age of 18 and with an eating disorder, alongside their families. We have close links with our colleagues in paediatrics and within locality CAMHS teams. We operate an assessment, treatment, and consultancy model to ensure that young people and their families receive high quality, safe, effective, evidence-based care encompassing both physical and psychological well-being in line with national guidance around the treatment of eating disorders within the community. The team provides individual and family therapy, physical monitoring, consultation, liaison, advice, and training, and works with young people and families affected by eating disorders as well as local partners in the community including schools and primary care. We have also developed a home based treatment team to provide more intensive community support and reduce the need for inpatient admissions.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be joining a well-established community team, and the post will involve working in the community within the supportive and collaborative multi-disciplinary eating disorders team to provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to young people and their families. The post holder will also offer supervision, advice, consultation and training to other members of the team, and there are multiple opportunities to be involved in service development initiatives as the service is constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of our population.

Experience of working with young people and families is important, as well as the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team and with our multi-agency partner organisations. Experience of working systemically would be beneficial. We are keen to support the ongoing development of Psychologists through training and CPD opportunities. The post holder will receive regular supportive supervision from the Consultant Psychologist within the service. There is a strong psychology network across the trust and within the CAMHS directorate. The service provides training placements and teaching for the local DClinPsy & DCounsPsy courses.
