We're recruiting for an experienced Sub-contract Buyer position to join our growing team.

With several new projects won, this business-critical role will work closely with the operational teams to support the delivery of our kitchen and bathroom refurbishment projects, directly contributing to the organisational growth targets.


In this role, you must be able to manage tight deadlines and fluctuant work volumes, with the ability to keep calm under pressure.

As Sub-contract Buyer you will be based at our Hemel Hempstead office and you will regularly travel to our sites to audit the on-going sub-contractor works.

Having great commercial understanding and plenty of existing sub-contractor contacts, you will be ready to hit the ground running.

Main Objectives of the role:

  • Negotiate and secure subcontract services for all required projects on time and to specification, for the best possible value, whilst maintaining the necessary standards and quality required to ensure company targets and objectives are met
  • Design, implement and imbed a subcontract buying plan, containing subcontractors information details, trade, quotes and other relevant information
  • Make sure that a consistent approach to subcontract buying is adopted across all projects, irrespective of division or workstream
  • Support the tendering process by making pricing recommendations based on subcontractor procurement
  • Attend mobilisation meetings to ensure that subcontractor procurement is carried out in line with projects contractual requirements
  • Monitor market rates and take action as needed to ensure PiLON is a contractor of choice
  • Produce subcontractor procurement programme and ensure this is adhered to
  • Support the commercial teams in value engineering specific projects
  • Put together and maintain detailed rolling work schedule to enable subcontractors' retention at PiLON

Do you have what it takes?

  • Minimum 24months continuous experience of supply chain/ subcontract procurement in the UK, social housing construction sector
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Solid organisational, timemanagement and prioritisation skills
  • Proactive, with the ability to deal with issues in a calm and professional manner
  • Sound judgement and decisionmaking skills
  • Flexibility regarding travel and working at various projects
  • UK driving licence
