Job summary

The purpose of the post is to work as a deputy screening coordinator within a team of midwives who provide specialist care planning and co-ordination for women in pregnancy and newborn babies.

The main responsibility for this post would be to deputise for the screening coordinators. This role would involve supporting the band 7 screening coordinators in the provision of antenatal and newborn screening programmes. This coordination will include monitoring of the routine screening service as well as giving and coordinating screen positive results. This role will also involve supporting the screening coordinators in completing and writing national reports and compiling data.

Main duties of the job

Deputise for the screening coordinator Ensure screen positive results are communicated to the patient in a timely manner. Support the screening coordinator in the collection, interpretation and reporting of KPI's Monitor failsafe systems to identify, as early as possible, mothers and babies that may have missed screening or where screening results are incomplete. Liaise with NHS England (NHSE) and Quality Assurance (QA) and participate fully in national Quality Assurance processes, co-operate in undertaking ad-hoc audits and reviews as requested by QA teams and respond in a timely manner to their recommendations.

In accordance with UK NSC standards and protocols the aim of the role is to ensure that there are adequate numbers of competent appropriately trained staff in place to deliver a high quality screening programme in line with best practice and guidelines and NHS screening programme national policies.

The postholder will work closely within the multidisciplinary team to address the varied and complex needs of women and newborn babies. The role is key to co-ordinating responses from other agencies and developing personalised care plans.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Midwife with valid NMC registration. Evidence of continuing professional development Practice Assessor Recent clinical experience relevant to the role of maternity screening coordinator

Desirable

Degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent specialist clinical experience. Specialist Haemoglobinopathy practitioners course/ Pegasus or equivalent Specialist screening course Warwick screening module or equivalent

Experience

Essential

Able to make decisions without supervision. Able to facilitate learning in varying forms Able to utilise a full range of midwifery skills and able to practice in all areas of the service. To be familiar with the emergent National Screening Committee Agenda Be aware of local/regional/national drivers to maintain/improve standards of care in Maternity Services Work with service users to understand their views in relation to the screening programme

Essential

Detailed knowledge regarding invasive diagnostic testing. Able to demonstrate evidence-based practice caring for both high and low risk antenatal women.
