Job Description

Responsible for providing Development Operations (DevOps) Engineering for all HSE cloud infrastructure services, ensuring the availability, performance, and relevance of various cloud technologies. This role involves supporting major digital and technology service transformation programs at HSE, as well as implementing continuous improvement (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) for live services. You will be instrumental in maintaining secure cloud-based technologies, safeguarding HSE's data and users against cyber threats and unauthorized access. The DevOps Engineer will engage with users, prioritize their needs, and deliver a customer-focused service. An exciting opportunity awaits for a DevOps Engineer to join the ITS Division.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment focused on various projects. Your role will revolve around supporting existing cloud-based services, contributing to the design and delivery of new cloud-based services in Azure, all while adhering to GDS and Agile principles.

Main Duties

Help develop the capabilities of HSE's multi-skilled DevOps Engineering team for managing cloud-based IT technologies.Establish and operate DevOps processes, fostering a culture of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD).Collaborate closely with development and testing teams to automate processes and introduce new tools.Support the design, implementation, and management of highly available, resilient, and scalable solutions within the cloud environment.Provide DevOps Engineering support for major digital and technology service transformation programs at HSE.

Please note that this role can be based in any HSE location (excluding London offices), with occasional travel to various HSE offices required. For further details about HSE locations, please refer to our website.

This position entails a 37-hour workweek spread across 5 days, between 07:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday. There might be instances where Saturday work between 07:00 and 19:00 is necessary. Your Line Manager will coordinate your working patterns, including any Saturday shifts, in advance based on operational needs.

Occasional on-call duty may be required.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Criteria

Proficiency in implementing and managing cloud-based solutions in Microsoft Azure, utilizing IaaS or PaaS services.Experience in setting up and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.Knowledge of monitoring live cloud services.Skilled in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash.Experience with creating and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using tools like Bicep and ARM templates.Strong communication skills.Familiarity with managing cloud-based IT technologies.

Desirable Skills and Criteria

Familiarity with configuration management tools like Terraform.
