The Suspected CANcer (SCAN) pathway

SCAN is a Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Centre (MDC) based pathway which supports earlier and faster detection of cancers amongst patients with non-specific but concerning symptoms, whose symptoms do not indicate an appropriate urgent (2 Week Wait) referral pathway.

SCAN pathway involves rapid access to Computed Tomography (CT) and laboratory tests (blood and faeces tests), with possible further tests if needed and an appointment with a specialist working in a Multi Diagnostic Clinic (MDC), dependent on the test results. The aim is to reach a diagnosis and be able to begin treatment faster than at present.

We are looking for an excellent administrator to support the team, on a part time basis. The SCAN Pathway Administrator will be a key member of the team working with closely with the SCAN pathway navigators and radiographers as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will support the SCAN team with governance and administration of the pathway. A keen eye for detail and good organisational skills are a must. The post holder will be required to undertake administrative triage of incoming referrals as well as a number of data entry/management tasks taking place at different points along the service pathway

Main duties of the job

The SCAN Pathway Administrator is a key member of the team working closely with the SCAN pathway navigators and radiographers as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will support the SCAN team with governance and administration of the pathway. A keen eye for detail and good organisational skills are a must. The post holder will be required to undertake administrative triage of incoming referrals as well as a number of data entry/management tasks taking place at different points along the service pathway. A background in administration and data entry and an understanding of the core principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) would be advantageous. but training will be provided.

About us

The team are based in the Churchill Radiology Department, within the Cancer and Haematology Centre, opened in 2009. Primarily, we provide imaging services across the specialities found on site: Oncology, Radiotherapy, Breast, Renal, Urology, Transplantation, Chest Medicine, upper and lower GI, Head and Neck, Haematology and Infectious Diseases.

We have 2 CT scanners, one 64 slice GE CT scanner and one 256 Slice GE CT Scanner. We cover all types of scanning in CT this includes cardiac, pneumocolons, orthopaedic and all various CT guided interventional procedures including microwave ablations.

The Churchill Radiology department also has a 10 bed Day Case Unit which supports interventional imaging across the department, including the admission, recovery and discharge of patients undergoing a variety of diagnostic and treatment procedures.

The department also includes 2 GE MRI Scanners, a and 3T, 2 flat plate interventional rooms, 2 PET/CT scanners, 2 Gamma Camera's including SPECT CT, 4 ultrasound rooms, a Lithotripsy unit and 5 DR GE Definium 8000 rooms.

Other specialist techniques include Hyperpolarised Xenon Imaging, High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound and SIRTS.
