Role Description:

Being part of a dynamic and expanding business, our Environmental Planning team is seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant with extensive EIA expertise. Your responsibilities will include working collaboratively with diverse technical experts on various projects, leading and organizing Environmental Impact Assessments, collaborating closely with clients, exploring new business opportunities, and guiding team members.

Whether focusing on environmental management, technical aspects, or sustainability, your tasks may involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's most bustling and picturesque locations.

Role Accountabilities:
  • Leading and overseeing environmental projects undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development, and ensuring optimal environmental results
  • Performing your tasks to a high standard and reviewing colleagues' work
  • Collaborating with members of the Impact Assessment Team across the UK
  • Managing selected projects or project segments, handling resource allocation, subcontractors, and quality assurance
  • Leading and contributing to tender proposals and bids as part of a project-winning team
  • Offering environmental guidance to clients, project managers, and peers
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders
  • Producing outstanding reports, with the ability to summarize outcomes for non-technical audiences being crucial
  • Supervising projects, ensuring our performance meets technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety standards
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Proficient in EIA practices, environmental principles, and technical specialisms
  • Diverse experience across various project types, particularly in energy, residential/mixed-use/regeneration, and major infrastructure projects like rail/highways
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing EIA screening, scoping activities, and Environmental Statements, including reviewing specialist chapters
  • Practical knowledge of the UK planning system and consent procedures
  • Strong skills in report writing, presentations, and verbal communication, including reviewing colleagues' work for quality assurance
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary project leadership, project management, and coordination
  • Skilled in consulting, negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders
  • Adept at working within a team, supervising staff when necessary
  • Commercial acumen, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards it
  • Hold a valid UK driving license
  • Desired: Experience in SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment projects
  • Desired: Knowledge and practical application of sustainability, waste, or carbon assessments
