PJA is looking to recruit a Principal Flood Risk Management & Drainage Engineer to support the continuing success of our Midlands Head Office.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Flood Risk Management & Drainage Engineer, working with a friendly team of specialist consultants in our Water Resources Team based in the south of Birmingham, to deliver Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies to support a wide variety of planning applications for private and public sector clients, within one of the UK's leading independent consultancies.

For the right individual, this is an excellent opportunity to help develop a strategically important and growing sector of the business. PJA is currently engaged in projects ranging from small scale private developments up to larger scale projects ranging between 150 to 10,000 residential units and supporting infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive background in delivering Flood Risk Assessments, SuDS and Drainage strategies, as well as the production and co-ordination of foul and surface water drainage design to support LP Reps, outline and detailed planning applications and discharging reserved matters.

They should have a strong academic background in a relevant science discipline (e.g. a degree in Civil Engineering, or a relevant higher education qualification) and/or extensive experience in a similar position.

They will also have:

  • A strong drainage capability (storm and foul) with a good understanding of drainage design with knowledge and experience of the Sewerage Sector Guidance, Code of Adoption Agreement and The SuDS Manual (CIRIA C753).
  • A strong understanding of national planning policy and relevant legislation regarding flood risk and drainage (such as NPPF, Flood and Water Management Act and Water Framework Directive) in addition to best practice in association with drainage, flood risk and the water environment
  • Experience of river restoration/design and contributing to environmental impact assessments and other civil engineering works within the water/environment industry.
  • An understanding of hydraulic modelling techniques, which may include Microdrainage, Causeway Flow, FEH, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller Pro, Estry-Tuflow, AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Experience of meeting attendance and liaising with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies
  • Good report writing skills
  • An understanding of the Flood Risk Activity Permitting and Land Drainage Consent Process would be advantageous but not essential
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (ICE/CIWEM) would be advantageous
