ROLE SUMMARY

We are recruiting for a European Patent Attorney to join our Research and Development team based in Dunfermline. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of Scotland's thriving medical technology industry.

Our Intellectual Property (IP) team help support business growth, protecting the innovations that differentiate us from our competitors, and manage the risks associated with our freedom to operate. You will work collaboratively with the other members of the IP team and the wider business to inform and manage our freedom to operate, and ensure efficiency of process in our busy commercial environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inform and manage our IP risks across the business and our associated freedom to operate.

Monitor third party IP, analyse the patent landscape, and perform relevant searches.

Identify features on our product roadmap for search and analysis.

Draft freedom to operate opinions and give freedom to operate advice to the business.

Help prepare and regularly update suitable metrics that identify our IP risks and opportunities.

Identify opportunities across the business and take the necessary actions to reduce IP risk.

Answer IP related questions from across the business to enhance IP understanding.

Work with outside counsel as necessary.

Work with the other members of the IP team to appropriately manage our IP.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified European Patent Attorney, with 5+ years post qualification experience.

Demonstrable ability to search for, understand and analyse engineering, physics and computing related inventions.

Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.

Capable of interacting in both technology and commercial environments, being approachable and able to build good working relationships.

Interested in applying commercial acumen to complex technical and IP legal issues.

Previous experience inhouse as a Patent Attorney or working in R&D is preferred.
