About the Role

We are currently recruiting for the Principal Tax role for our International Tax team in London.

As the Principal Tax EMEA your focus is to manage the tax positions and tax risks relating to Treasury, Exploration, Insurance, and other allocated tax matters in the Europe and Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region .

Reporting to the Tax Manager EMEA, your core accountabilities include:

  • Planning, reviewing, managing and implementing the required work in areas of assigned accountabilities in accordance with BHP Operating System (BOS) principles – this includes, corporation tax, withholding tax, VAT compliance, OECD tax reforms, tax implications of dividends, insurance arrangements, permanent establishments and the corporate tax risk associated with employee mobility.
  • Partnering with Portfolio Strategy and Development (PSD) to proactively manage the tax impacts of Exploration projects in new entry locations in the EMEA region.
  • Supporting the Manager Tax EMEA (and taking a lead in specific areas, as assigned) in the timely delivery and implementation of tax advice.
  • Analysing new tax legislation and other tax developments/announcements and provide analysis and recommendations to stakeholders/customers both within Group Tax and outside of Group Tax
  • Reviewing complex tax calculations, modelling, and analytics for tax compliance, reporting, and planning projects.
  • Proactively managing the relationship with HMRC and other tax authorities in the EMEA region.
  • Preparing timely responses to allocated tax regulatory requests in accordance with Group Tax standards and protocols.
  • Reviewing contracts and commercial proposals and make evidence-based and risk-managed recommendations and decisions.
  • Reviewing and validating where appropriate, that tax documentation is appropriate and accurate.
About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience delivering complex tax advice in a highly complex multinational business and/or professional services firm.
  • Experience in implementing tax processes and projects, including transactions, systems and processes.
  • Sound understanding of key principles relating to UK corporation tax, withholding, VAT and international tax.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant jurisdictional corporate tax rules / regulations and relevant accounting rules / regulations.
  • Tertiary level qualification in tax or relevant field.
  • High level MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • SAP platform experience.
  • Experience in managing tax risks in a corporate environment.
  • Experience in engaging with Tax Regulators.
