In collaboration with the Exeter University SFP IAPT programme, Oxford NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit 3 one-year fixed term senior mental health practitioner /recruit to train SFP posts.

The posts will be part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and are part of a response to the target to increase access and offer an evidence-based intervention to more children, young people and their families outlined in Implementing the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health.

There are 3 posts will be based in our Melksham and Salisbury where the clinical work will be conducted. There is a possibility of travel to other bases for supervision and meetings if, and when, required.

  • Trainee SFP's will deliver SFP IAPT work with families where a child is
experiencing an eating disorder, conduct disorder or anxiety.

They will be distinct roles within the children and young people's workforce in BSW and will work under robust supervision, alongside other Getting Help colleagues, supported by a Clinical Team manager.


  • We are developing our SFP IAPT offer across our teams and there is the opportunity for joint working with other (graduates and trainees) across the patch.
  • The SFP IAPT training will be delivered by the Exeter University and the post holders will need to attend all of the required training teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days. The roles are dependent on meeting all course requirements.
  • There is a requirement to travel to Exeter for the training, although some days will be online.
  • Applications are welcome from people who hold a professional title in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology etc and are capable of graduate training.


Please note in this instance the course is not optional; there will be a joint interview process including Exeter University and Oxford Health.

  • Hold an appropriate caseload and undertake key work, offering evidence based interventions to minimise waiting times.
  • Provide specialist CAMHS assessment and therapy to children, adolescents and their families who have complex psychological emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • Undertake risk assessments
  • Contribute to care planning
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Accept or redirect referrals via agreed protocol
  • Assess for suitability for treatment under CYP-IAPT models, for which training is provided
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programs for clients, family members and others in treatment
  • Attend meetings for clients relating to referrals and treatment
  • Complete data collection including the use of routine outcome measures
  • Comply with service protocols to maintain accurate assessment and treatment records for individual patients using the Trust wide electronic patient record system, updating information to reflect patients most recent presentation and needs
  • Travel between CAMHS bases, as necessary to attend meetings or supervision
  • Compile written reports as required
  • Work closely with a range of agencies including those from the Children, Young People and Families directorate, Police, Addiction services, Adoption services, YOT and the Voluntary sector
  • Liaise regularly with the management team concerning service provision
  • Attend to the academic and clinical requirements of the CYP IAPT course; this comprises 90% course attendance, essay submissions between words, tape submissions, compilation of a reflexive practice portfolio, etc.
