Windsor, Windsor and Maidenhead, United Kingdom The Duke of Edinburgh Award Full time
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is seeking to appoint one new Trustee.

As a DofE Trustee you will make a meaningful contribution to our work, helping young people develop themselves so they have the skills and confidence to make the most of whatever life throws at them.

Following a recent skills and diversity audit we have identified the need to engage a Trustee with specific skills and knowledge in the following areas:

The duties of a trustee are as follows:

  • Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
  • Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (for example, its trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuit of its charitable objects (for example, the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public.
  • Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation.
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
  • Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
  • Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity's funds.
  • Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the chief executive (if the charity employs staff)

In addition to the above statutory duties, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Trustees Board reach sound decisions.

This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the Trustee has special expertise.

  • A commitment to the organisation.
  • Strategic vision.
  • Good, independent judgement.
  • An ability to think creatively.
  • A willingness to speak their mind.
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • A commitment to Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Trustee recruitment:

Following a recent skills and diversity audit the DofE Trustee Board is particularly keen to recruit a new Board member with skills, expertise and lived experience in the following areas:

Executive level management experience - we are seeking applicants with experience of working at C-suite level in a business environment. We need insight and advice to help us bridge the gap for young people between education and employment and in developing our business offering.

Youth employment and learning and development - we are seeking applicants with experience of employing and developing younger staff at scale. We require insight into employers' needs, best practice in learning and development for young people and access to employer networks to help DofE boost its reach.

Overlaid on the above skillsets will be a focus on
increasing the gender diversity of our Board and we particularly welcome female and non-binary applicants who can help ensure we continue to have balanced input from a range of lived experience on our Board.

Terms of Appointment
Trustees are appointed for an initial four-year term with the possibility to extend for a further four-year period.
