We are recruiting for the role of Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join our Wiltshire Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in September 2024.

As a Trainee EMHP, you will be allocated to a particular area within Wiltshire, however travel across the whole of Wiltshire is required to fulfil the requirements of the role. We are particularly looking for trainees to work primarily within the Salisbury area of Wiltshire.

Main duties of the job

Your training year will be focused on attending University and developing your intervention skills in the MHST, working in schools when you are not at University. You will need to meet the entry requirements for the University course, detailed in the attached FAQs (Please note these are from January 2024 as the September FAQs are yet to be released).

The University course is delivered by the University of Exeter, with teaching for the course delivered online or via a hybrid model of online and face to face classes in Exeter. You therefore must be able to travel to Exeter when required by the University. In previous years, Face to Face teaching has been 1-3 times a week during the six months of University teaching. There is also an expectation that private study will be conducted during study days and outside of working hours.

Through the course, you will be supported to build your skills to deliver 1:1 and group interventions to children, young people and caregivers within education establishments, under expert supervision. You will also learn about and support with the Whole School and college Approach to mental health and wellbeing.

You will be required to successfully complete the Mental Health Practice in Education Settings training with the University of Exeter as either a post graduate or undergraduate. On successful completion of the EMHP training course, you will be able to apply for a permanent band 5 position in the team.

Job responsibilities

In this role, you will train to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems. This will be through 1:1 interventions, parent led interventions, groups, workshops, and assemblies. You will work in collaboration with other EMHP's / CWP's to deliver groups, workshops assemblies and staff training.

You will work closely with the school/college mental health leads to develop a Whole School and College Approach to mental health and wellbeing within your allocated schools.

Knowledge of CYP development and the role of family in supporting children and young peoples emotional wellbeing gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health Knowledge of the educational system in England understanding of MHSTs role in supporting Children and young people
