We are seeking an enthusiastic Mental Health Practitioner that holds professional registration with either, RMHN, Mental Health Social worker or Occupational Therapist.

HM Prison Peterborough is a Category B private prison for men and young offenders, it holds 868 males. It is a closed prison for female's and young offenders with 364 females including a Mother and Baby Unit.

The Mental Health Team is part of the integrated Healthcare provision at HMP Peterborough. The team consists of Senior Mental Health Nurse's, occupational Therapist, Perinatal Specialists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and support worker.

The Mental Health Team covers a seven-day service, the post holder will work as a core member of the team delivering and providing a comprehensive safe, effective mental health service that encompasses primary and secondary mental health provision within the prison, ensuring a Trauma Informed co-produced recovery focussed service.


The post holder will utilise a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge with the team to deliver both individual and group workings with service users open to the Mental Health Team, following the stepped care model.

The post holder will support the Team Manager in their development of operational and clinical service mechanisms.

  • Undertake mental health assessments and risk assessments, and care planning, and implementation and review of service to people referred to the team both individually and with colleagues from other disciplines
  • To care coordinate those on CPA ensuring that reviews are held in line with policy and guidelines.
  • To provide structured therapeutic interventions with potentially complex clients in onetoone session or group settings as appropriate.
  • To manage a caseload and to prioritise effectively.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary team working to ensure service user's needs are met.
To use effective judgement and interventions in emergency clinical situations.

  • To liaise with other professionals and agencies in the planning and delivery of care for service users ensuring that a quality service is provided within the locality.
  • To develop and maintain productive working relationships with your team, managers, and other colleagues.
  • To take personal responsibility to keep your knowledge up to date and to reflect on and evaluate your own values in the development of your practice, to maintain up to date professional registration.
  • To participate within clinical or managerial meetings and team briefing as required
  • To undertake the assessor/mentor role with students on placement within the service and assist with the teaching of students or junior staff
