This position is based at our UK Centre of Excellence for Life sciences in Ashford, Kent.

As a Hardware Systems Engineer, you will focus on product design and development of new imaging and sighting systems for Aerospace & Defence and Life Science.

You will take responsibility for the electronics and firmware design of products from concept through to production taking into account requirements, timescales, cost and regulatory constraints.

You will be working with colleagues across the business including product management and business development to support new commercial opportunities as well as operations, supporting technology transfer to manufacture.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of development engineers working on new cutting-edge products for applications in laser directed energy weapons, multi-band sighting systems for increased situational awareness as well as next-generation advanced medical imaging that will drive and deliver sustained revenue growth.


Main duties include;nLead development of electronic solutions for a range of electro-optical products utilising FPGA, digital and analogue electronic hardware and software.

nProvide electronic systems engineering inputs from concept to manufacture and testnAssist with requirements capture and specification definition, sensitivity analysis, reliability analysis as requirednWork as part of a multi-disciplinary team and perform electronic design, analysis and testnPrepare presentations and reports to a high standard for all phases of the projectnSupport handover from design to productionnWork with Business Development and Engineering teams to support new opportunities and generate solutions for customersnDrive products from design, to prototyping up to environmental qualification following internal or customer-driven NPI


Ideal candidates will have the following;nQualified to Degree Level 2:1 +nDemonstrable knowledge in digital and analogue signal processingnAnalogue electronics design experiencenSchematic capture and layoutnCreate and maintain technical documentation that supports the product development process including product specifications, manuals and end user instructionsnAbility to create and give presentations to customers and partnersnKnowledge or experience of the full design lifecycle, including taking designs from initial negotiations through requirements capture, sub-system design, hardware design and test to final integration.

nAbility to work autonomously

Desirable:
nFirmware development experience, C, (C++, C#, Phython advantageous)nUnderstanding of qualification standards (e.g. MIL, STANAG, ESCC/ECSS)nDemonstratable knowledge in digital and analogue video processing
