We are looking for a Materials Management Assistant to provide an efficient, timely and courteous service to the wards and departments within Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

You will welcome goods in take them to the correct pick location and ensure they are sent to the right area with the hospital before collaborating with colleagues to ensure the right supplies get to exactly where they are needed.


Responsibilities will also include the management of stock, data input and processing of orders and liaison with customers, other procurement colleagues and NHS logistics.

This is a role based on site at Royal Papworth Hospital, please note there is no free onsite parking available for staff.

Staff members are advised to use one of the many free park and ride facilities dotted around Cambridge. There are also secure areas at the hospital to lock up bikes and any other mode of transport used.

What you'll be doing:

  • Capturing data using a handheld barcode reader, and transmit the orders to the supplier
  • Being accountable for the timely input of data to ensure continuity of supply
  • Carrying out stock level reviews, ensuring appropriate stock rotation and maintaining audit records
  • Providing receipt and distribution services, including unpacking and checking delivered items against order information
  • Advising customers of any product changes or shortages and actively source alternatives.
  • Assisting with urgent product recalls following safety alerts as well as assisting with removal, return or disposal of excess or redundant stock

What you'll bring:

  • Previous experience within a manual handling role is essential.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Selfmotivated and able to work on own initiative as well as being able to communicate clearly and with diplomacy
  • Flexible approach to the needs of the department.
  • Working MS Outlook experience

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience within an NHS environment
  • An understanding of Oracle
  • Previous experience with using bar code scanners and Electronic Demand Capture (EDC)
