Responsible to:
Team Leader/Manager


Purpose of the Job:

To work as a key worker and as part of the Nursery team under the direction of the Nursery leader/manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children.


Pay:
Apprentice wage £5.28ph

Hours: 35 hours per week / 38 weeks a year

Holidays:20 days

MAIN DUTIES

  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum
  • To help set up the Nursery for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of session.
  • To act as a key worker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
  • Contribute to the monitoring, recording and assessment of child progress through observation and questioning, against child's target and individual education plans.
  • Demonstrate good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate and effective children's records
  • To advise the Nursery leader of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is acquired as part of the job
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Team leader/Manager, in accordance with the Nursery's business plan/objectives.
  • Assist with serving of refreshments.
  • Comply with the statutory framework for the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and relevant legislation including the children's act 1989 and 200
  • Learn about current developments in childcare and education policy and practice

Health & Safety including Child protection

  • Follow and implement the settings child protection (safeguarding) policies and procedures, contributing to concern identification, recording and working in partnership with all staff including the designated person to keep children safe, undertake or be trained to the minimum LSCB safeguarding expectations as defined within the settings training programme. (Please note Disciplinary procedures will take place if staff members do not comply with the child protection (safeguarding) policies and procedures. This is gross misconduct)
  • To advise the Team leader or Nursery Nurse of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery
  • Ensure general cleanliness of babies and children at all times
  • Adhere to all health & safety policies and procedures
  • Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures e.g fire precautions, security, dropping off and collection of children.
  • Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding and nappy changing area and food surface areas

Operational

  • Contribute to the development of school policies and practices, the Nursery improvement plan and activities.
  • Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers
  • Work with the Team and manager to assist in the implementations

Relationships/Staff

The Nursery Assistant will be required:

  • To work in a team with the team leader and other staff
  • To liaise with parents as required
  • Take responsibility, along with other staff, for the health & Safety, Accident prevention and smooth running of emergency procedure for both children and other members of staff

General

  • To attend inservice training courses and meetings as required.
  • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g preparation of snack and tea meals, cleansing of equipment and other such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the manager.
  • Attend and be involved with, out of working hours activities, e.g training, parents meetings, open days, children's parties and regular planning and staff meetings

Physical Effort:
This job is likely to involve some lifting of children and equipment on a regular basis. Training will be provided where necessary.

Working Environment:
