Job summary

The Urology services of Northern Care alliance are evolving toward a fully integrated single service. Currently the service is based on two hubs which are Oldham Royal (NCA East) and Salford Royal (NCA West). The service supports a population of approximately 800,000 and provides most subspecialty work for this population.

This post is for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to be based at The Royal Oldham Hospital (elective in-patients and on-call) with clinical commitments at Rochdale Infirmary (day case and diagnostics). The post holder may be required to work on other trust sites asper the directorate needs or the incumbent's subspecialist interest.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide demonstrable expertise in Urology in order to deliver a high-quality independent service.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with other consultants and members of the wide multi-disciplinary team to develop Urology services for the local population of approximately 800,000.

The appointment to this post has these main aims:

To join a team that provides comprehensive consultant-based patient-centred Management of Urology. To contribute to the continuing development of the department throughout a period of significant change for the directorate The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the patients presenting to the Department. To examine and treat patients on the shop floor of the Department. To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff To carry out ward rounds To carry out hot week and in reach services to ensure that all our patients have a timely senior review and management plan. To participate in an out of hours on call rota and 7-day ward reviews. Participate in a rota which triages urgent and routine referrals to maximise outpatient capacity.

Legal requirment

Essential

Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview Full registration with the General Medical Council Licensed to practice with the GMC

Professional Qualifications

FRCS(Urol) or equivalent Completion of CCT/higher specialist training or equivalent in Urology, or within 6 months of CCT

Desirable

Higher degree Higher qualification in management Experience in Management & leadership Involvement in quality improvement initiatives Higher qualification in Education

Training and Clinical Experience

Essential

Clinical experience and expertise in Core and General Urology Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeps up-to-date with medical advances. Knowledge and appreciation of the core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice
