Job Summary: The main goal of this position is to assist the Laboratory Support Supervisor in delivering top-notch neuropathology services that prioritize patient and client care. Responsibilities include supporting pathologists, laboratory manager, Biomedical Scientists (BMSs), and researchers to ensure optimal use of resources and effective teamwork.

  • Responsible for archiving and retrieving microscope slides, paraffin blocks, tissues/organs, and reports.
  • Prepares stained slides for scanning, organizes them on the image management system, and delivers them to reporting pathologists promptly.
  • Enters, retrieves, updates, and documents confidential data and information in patient and tissue databases.
  • Collates required material and documents for sending to referral laboratories.
  • Maintains adequate levels of chemicals and consumable stocks for diagnostic service use.
  • Participates in the management and storage of chemicals and glassware stocks.
  • Prepares reports and slides for meetings and educational activities.
  • Shows understanding of scientific and technical processes related to diagnostic pathology after appropriate training.
  • Advises the service manager on equipment issues and necessary actions.
  • Collects audit data under the BMS or Service Manager's direction.
  • Provides cover for senior laboratory assistants and helps with daily maintenance and preparation of equipment.

Job Responsibilities:
Science and Technology:

  • Responsible for archiving and retrieving microscope slides, paraffin blocks, tissues/organs, and reports.
  • Updates and documents confidential data in databases.
  • Prepares materials for referral laboratories and maintains chemical stocks.
  • Participates in chemical management and glassware maintenance.
  • Prepares reports and slides for various meetings and activities.
  • Undergoes training to understand technical processes related to diagnostic pathology.
  • Advises on equipment issues and collects audit data.
  • Supports senior laboratory assistants and manages equipment maintenance.

Administrative:

  • Supports surgical and post mortem reporting services efficiently.
  • Manages document scanning and general administration tasks.
  • Effectively communicates with service users in a professional manner.
  • Prioritizes workload and maintains work relations with staff.
  • Participates in education programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

Organizational/Management:

  • Maintains stocks and sets up the coffee machine daily.
  • Supports all service areas and ensures accurate work systems.
  • Performs procedures as per SOPs and implements changes as required.
  • Assists in objective setting and skills development.
