Lightricity is seeking a Space Engineer to develop assembly and test methods and processes, and to automate processes for the integration and testing of ultra-efficient space solar cells.

The successful candidate should enjoy hands-on activities and have a relevant degree in space, electrical or mechanical engineering (MSc or PhD desirable).

Experience working with space-grade components or systems (e.g. Cubesats) is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities:
Develop and improve processes for the quality control and testing (mechanical, opto-electrical, thermal) of space solar cells and modules
Solar cell integration into rigid and flexible modules or blankets
Develop automated testing and packaging processes (assembly and encapsulation)
Contribute to the company's R&D projects
Write technical documentation and specifications

Required skills/experience:
Soldering/welding knowledge
Knowledge about solar cells and characterisation procedures
Experience working in laboratories and/or workshops
Ability to work under own initiative and to manage workload appropriately to meet tight deadlines
A team player, with good communication skills
Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable skills/experience:
Experience working in clean rooms
Practical soldering/welding experience
PCB design and fabrication
Experience with solar cells (incl. compound semiconductors) and/or modules
Experience in lamination and/or encapsulation processes
Familiarity with Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) principles
