Job summary
This role is for a band 7 Annex U Trainee Sonographer rotating between the City campus, Treatment Centre, QMC campus. There are exciting plans in development to open a new Community Diagnostic Centre in the City Centre in 2025 which will be managed by NUH Radiology. There may be a requirement for staff to rotate to this location as part of this role.
The post is to commence 2nd September 2024.

NUH provides both Obstetric and non-Obstetric services across all sites which includes GP (AQP), outpatients, DVT /vascular, and inpatient scanning, and a gynaecological scanning service
The Trainee post will focus on General Medical Ultrasound.
There are 3 Ultrasound Clinical Specialists who will support and guide you during your trainee period and beyond. You will also be allocated a mentor.
The Ultrasound Department is open between 8am-6pm Monday-Friday with potential additional lists at the weekend. The CDC will open 8am-8pm 7 days a week.
You will be accountable to the Ultrasound Modality Manager and the Speciality General Manager for Ultrasound, and as part of this role, you will work with a team of Sonographers', Radiologists and other specialties within NUH to ensure a high quality Ultrasound service to our customers.
Main duties of the job
To undertake Ultrasound training within General Medical Ultrasound.
To maintain a high standard of work and to strive for continual improvements in Ultrasound standards and patient care.
To obtain high quality diagnostic images.
Triage workflow and patients in the area within which they are working by collaborating with colleagues to maximize departmental efficiency.
To establish and maintain a good working relationship with other members of staff and disciplines.

To perform high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provide a concise detailed report of the findings in accordance with the departmental protocols and procedures.
To explain procedures to patients in a manner that facilitates their full understanding of the examination and to ensure that informed consent is obtained.
Effectively communicate the scan findings to the patient, having a caring attitude, display empathy and provide support when needed.
