Role Description

This is a role to join our new (Legal) Industry Advisory Panel as a Panel Member at Legal Utopia. As a Panel Member, you will be expected to attend quarterly panel meetings and actively participate in the discussions, feedback sessions, and user research activities incorporated in them.

Panel Members would be expected to conduct pre-reading of shared materials, prototypes, and documents for panel meetings. Panel Members would utilise their experience as legal practitioners to express their insights, feedback, and recommendations on crucial product feature, user-interface design, and functionality proposals, amongst of subject matter, in panel meetings.

Scope

The Advisory Panel is established to seek the insights, feedback, and expertise from active members of the Bar and solicitors professions to inform user research activities at Legal Utopia. The Panel serves as a key stakeholder group, representing the perspectives and interests of legal practitioners in shaping the development and enhancement of Legal Utopia's platform.

Panel Members are independent consultants to Legal Utopia. The Panel is not formed as a Board committee under the Companies Act 2006 or Legal Utopia's corporate governance. Panel Members are not required to act as company directors or non-executive directors.

Term

Panel Members are appointed by the Director of Operations and serve a term of one year, renewable based on the discretion of the appointing authority (Board of Directors).

Composition

The Panel shall consist of active members of the Bar and solicitor professions, representing diverse practice areas, geographic regions, and levels of experience within the legal profession. An equality, diversity, and inclusion survey must be completed at the application phase, see below, to achieve this purpose. Solicitors and barristers will be equally represented on the Panel.

Legal Utopia will appoint a designated representative to facilitate panel meetings and activities, this representative will be responsible for running the panel meetings on behalf of the company.

Commitment

Panel Members shall attend a quarterly panel meeting of up to 2 hours and actively participate. Meetings will generally be conducted virtually. Ad hoc special or supplement meetings or working groups may be established as needed to address specific topics or initiatives as directed by the Chair.

Remuneration

Panel Members will be paid £250 (exc vat) per hour, per quarterly meeting. The same rate is applied to any special or supplement meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Attend quarterly panel meetings, of up to 2-hours each, and actively participate in the discussions, feedback sessions, and user research activities incorporated in them.
  • Conduct thorough pre-reading/review of materials, prototypes, and documents provided for any panel meeting.
  • Provide insights, feedback, and recommendations on Legal Utopia's UI/X design, product features, and functionality based on their experience as legal practitioners.
  • Advocate for the needs and preferences of legal professionals within the panel, ensuring that user research activities align with industry standards and best practices.

Reporting

The Panel will produce reports addressed to the Head of Design on a quarterly basis.

Vacancies

Legal Utopia is seeking 6x Panel Members to join its Advisory Panel; 3x solicitors and 3x barristers.

Applicants must be:

(i) actively practising,

(ii) registered and regulated by either the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) or Bar Standards Board (BSB);

(iii) present on the public registers of the SRA or BSB;

(iv) without a prior disciplinary record or sanction; and

(v) based in the UK.
