We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Business Advisor in our Operational Business Support (Financial Management) team. You will support the delivery of our monthly management accounts across three non-Clinical Divisions. You will be a key part of the finance team providing financial stewardship to the organisation and supporting the achievement of the finance team vision. This vital role is responsible for providing a comprehensive and high quality financial and business support service to the Corporate, Digital and Estates & Facilities Divisions, in accordance with agreed timescales and professional standards. The post holder plays a crucial role providing expert financial advice and training to a range of Managers within the Divisions. You will work closely with the leadership teams across the Divisions to ensure the consistent achievement of financial performance and outcome targets that supports the delivery of high-quality patient care. This is a challenging role and a great opportunity for someone to be a part of a high performing, dynamic and motivated finance team. Main duties of the job - Support the Business Advisor in providing a robust financial planning and reporting service to a Division including month end closedown, financial forecasting and risk assessment. - Manage a small team of staff to ensure priorities are delivered to expected standards and timescales, and that staff receive both regular appraisals and development opportunities. Communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions. Deputise for the Business Advisor as required, including representation at a number of senior forums. You will be a qualified accountant, proficient in the use of a wide range of IT systems including financial ledger and will be able to work with non-finance staff to present complex financial information in ways which will ensure engagement and understanding. Job description Job responsibilities Key Duties : Financial Planning and Reporting Supports the Business Advisor (Corporate / E& F / Digital) in providing financial support to the Division and Service Lines. Co-ordinates and manages the process of annual budget setting for Division working within an agreed corporate framework. Support the Business Advisor (Corporate / E& F / Digital) in monitoring and reporting upon potential financial risks and risk minimisation strategies. Monitor and forecast expenditure trends/budgetary performance on a monthly basis, identifying variances & service issues for managers & advising them appropriately. Develops and maintains systems to monitor and update Division and Service Line financial plans and advise them on corrective actions where necessary. Provide information on a monthly basis to contribute to corporate financial reports. Supports the Business advisor (Corporate / E& F / Digital) and Divisional Directors and Managers in the identification of efficiency savings and provides a monthly schedule of progress against agreed targets. - Provision of Financial Advice and Training - Provide Business Management and Decision Support - Manage a Small Team of Staff General Duties : To support the Business Advisor (Corporate / E& F / Digital) in providing robust financial planning and reporting service to a Division including financial forecasting and risk assessment. To provide expert financial advice and training to a range of managers and clinicians within the division. To support the Business Advisor (Corporate / E& F / Digital) in providing business management support to enhance decision making within the division. To be an active member of multi-disciplinary teams contributing to the management of the Division and Service lines. Manage a small team of staff ensuring regular appraisal and development opportunities. To be an active member of the Finance Directorate contributing to its development. Deputise for the Business Advisor in their absence. Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Minimum 5 O Levels/GCSEs or equivalent (including Maths and English.
  • CCAB qualifications or CIMA.
  • Committed to Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable
  • Graduate
Experience Essential
  • Management accounting experience or equivalent
Desirable
  • Acute Sector Experience.
  • Senior level experience in the NHS finance sector.
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Expert user of Financial Systems.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with a wide range of individuals.
  • Highly numerate and analytical.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Advanced report writing skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team of staff.
  • Ability to see the wider issues associated with a particular situation.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within agreed objectives.
  • Ability to investigate, analyse and convey complex financial information to a non-finance audience.

  • Specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
