Senior/Principal Ecologist at Lucion

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior/Principal Ecologist to join our successful Ecology team at Lucion. We predominantly work in the private sector on various projects, such as renewable energy, residential, logistics, education, and leisure (excluding HS2 projects). Offering comprehensive training support to advance our staff careers and skill set.

Location:

We can be flexible on the UK location, with the nearest office possibly being our facility in London.

Role Responsibility
  • Undertaking extended phase 1 habitat surveys/ UK Habs surveys to accurately describe and map habitats and assess their potential to support notable/protected species.
  • Undertaking phase 2 surveys for legally protected species.
  • Producing a range of ecological reports and reviewing junior team work.
  • Designing and managing ecological surveys and associated mitigation.
  • Project Management.
  • Liaising with clients, professional advisors, contractors, and the general public.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels within the business, with clients, subcontractors, and other third parties (regulators, statutory consultees, etc.).
  • Opportunities for managing and mentoring junior team members for candidates interested.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant subject.
  • Minimum four years' experience as a professional ecological consultant.
  • Strong ecological field skills covering various protected species and habitats.
  • Understanding of legislative and planning policy framework related to ecology and nature conservation.
  • Ability to write concise, high-quality, technical reports following CIEEM guidelines.
  • Experience in reviewing technical ecology reports by others.
  • Experience with the latest Defra Biodiversity Metric (desirable).
  • Experience in writing fee proposals, project management, and client liaison (desirable).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Membership of CIEEM.
  • Protected species licence(s) or working towards licences (support and training provided).
  • Full UK driving licence.
