WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
As a Product Development Engineer, you will develop, maintain, and support the tools used to manage the company's products and solutions. You will be responsible for defining the optimal configuration of the product components, including hardware, operating system, and application software, and developing the configuration management required to ensure that those configurations are easily, reliably, and securely deployed to customers. Your experience with Linux systems administration will be crucial in ensuring the best configurations are defined, and your ability to create configuration management controls for these configurations will ensure pixitmedia can deliver optimal solutions every time.

Responsibilities:

  1. Test, develop and support the pixitmedia solution deployment and configuration management software and support the product components
  2. Document, and develop mitigations/solutions for security-related product and development issues
  3. The deployment and operation of pixitmedia solutions and products and tool chain development of new or updated solution components and develop product documentation and training materials
  4. Technical solution expertise at all levels of the organisation, and externally
  5. 3rd level support for deployed solutions and technologies

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Skills:
Essential:
Managing Linux operating systems and infrastructure is essential
Linux security hardening and/or incident response is essential
Using software-defined configuration management systems, such as SaltStack (preferred), Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc, is essential
Working with enterprise hardware, preferably in a data centre environment, including deploying and managing servers, network switches, storage arrays and any other Enterprise infrastructure related hardware
Python and Bash is essential
Use of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins
Able to learn other software required in the course of the role, with training on such systems as needed
Use of Git for code management, and software project/issue management systems, such as Jira (preferred), Trac, GitHub, etc., is essential
Familiar with:
Creating and distributing software packages with RPM, Docker, and Python Wheel
Developing and using monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems, such as Prometheus and Grafana
Elasticsearch, and its wider software ecosystem
Samba, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, and CTDB
Docker
SaltStack
Cluster computing, in particular: storage, virtualization and compute/render clustering

CONTRACT INFORMATION:
Type of contract: Permanent contract
