_Living Memories of St Albans Art School_ project is lead by UH Arts + Culture, with the School of Creative Arts and St Albans Museum + Gallery.
- This project sets out to explore the history of St Albans Art School through the memories of its alumni, its students, and teachers, thereby cocreating a local view of art's history over the years.
- The legacy will be culminating in 2025 with an exhibition to mark the 150th anniversary of St Albans Art School. The project will enable a greater appreciation and understanding of the School's history and it place in the region's culture.
- The Research and Engagement Coordinator will be central to the project and will help outreach for, and coordinate, a series of workshops and discussion groups to explore St Albans Art School history, leading to oral history recordings (if appropriate) and a publication.
Main duties & responsibilities:
- Working as part of a dynamic and creative team, the post holder will take coordination and engagement responsibility for the research groups of stakeholders and participants that will share and develop research into St Albans Art School.
- The post holder will coordinate meetings, capturing findings and supporting necessary visits, e.g., to local archives and oral history capture. They will assist the Programme Manager to organise a publication and event in September to celebrate the project, and record and write up information for evaluation.
- Reporting to the Head of UH Arts + Culture, the post will share time across the different areas of UH Arts + Culture' activity, to extend the reach and impact of the arts and cultural offer. The post holder will need to work a varied timetable including some weekend and evening work.
Skills/Qualifications Required:
- Outreach and engagement experience at a community, museum or arts setting
- Experience facilitating discussions and learning & leading workshops and/or events
- Understanding of coproduced research
- Experience working for large organisations
- Written English to a high standard
- Knowledge of history, as well as St Albans and surrounding areas (including St Albans Art School) and academic research experience to MA level or beyond would also be of benefit
