Job Summary

We are in search of an Orthoptist to join our team at the Royal Eye Infirmary, offering a Band 5 or Band 6 position depending on experience. There are perks such as Recruitment and Retention Premia of £5,000 and relocation expenses for the right candidate.

Newly qualified orthoptists are encouraged to apply and will begin at band 5, with potential progression to band 6 after 18 months. Support through the British and Irish Orthoptic Society preceptorship scheme is guaranteed.

Our purpose-built Ophthalmology Centre provides a modern working environment, where you'll handle a diverse Orthoptic caseload including paediatric and adult patients. Expect to collaborate with various departments within the Trust and engage in community clinics.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Varied Orthoptic caseload covering paediatric and adult patients
  • Specialized nystagmus/ocular motility clinics in partnership with Professor Chris Harris
  • Supervision of orthoptic students and participation in clinical tutoring

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently manage Orthoptic assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for patients of all ages
  • Administer individualized treatment plans and provide family support with empathy
  • Evaluate visual acuity, behavior, and clinical signs effectively

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Interest in Ophthalmology
  • Commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Desirable

  • Post-graduate experience in clinical Orthoptics and active participation in teaching programs

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Orthoptics and HCPC Registration

Desirable

  • Clinical Tutor qualification
