Barnardo's is working in partnership with South Ayrshire ADP, Statutory Services, ACA, Recovery Ayr and We are With You, to provide whole family holistic support to children young people and family members affected by substance use.


This new and ambitious project aims to provide a no 'wrong door approach' to any child young person or family member wishing to access support in their own right.

The project will also deliver early intervention and prevention work within schools and community groups.

JOB AIMS

  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team in South Ayrshire that includes a range of staff, peers, and volunteers from third sector and statutory services.
  • To provide holistic support to children, young people, family members and loved ones affected by substance use.
  • To provide support to young people with early and emerging substance use
  • To provide early and effective interventions and prevention work within schools and community groups
  • To work collaboratively with families to promote recovery and develop and nurture strengths to ensure both children and adults can overcome any difficulties that get in the way.
  • To work collaboratively with a wide range of statutory and third sector partners across the ADP, as well as with internal and external stakeholders, to achieve effective, safe and innovative service provision.

Responsibilities:

  • To support the development of the project
  • To provide direct work to children, young people and family members
  • To deliver group work and inputs to school pupils alongside other members of the team
  • To work collaboratively with partners identified within the project and the wider system to ensure project success and children young people and family's needs are met.
  • To provide holistic, intensive and flexible support, this will include evenings and weekends as required.
  • Proactively build and maintain professional relationships across the ADP 'system'.
  • To continually learn from and disseminate good practice.
  • To promote people's rights in a positive and proactive way, and to assist those working with children and young people to incorporate a children's rights perspective into their work and practices.
  • To promote Families as key members of our communities, and to work in an antidiscriminatory way.
  • To contribute to reports as required by the line manager.
  • To keep accurate and comprehensive records as required by service/agency policy and procedures.
  • To attend meetings as required by Barnardo's for the purposes of management, monitoring, evaluation, and development of participation work.
  • To undertake appropriate training to enable the postholder to carry out the job more effectively and aid their own professional development.
  • To actively promote Barnardo's Scotland Equal Opportunities policy, work within the organisation's Basis & Values and ensure that diversity is recognised and promoted.
  • Working alongside Families to coordinate and deliver outcome focused support tailored to individual needs.
  • Delivering a variety of interventions in partnership with statutory and third sector colleagues to promote recovery and wellbeing.
  • Developing and delivering evidence informed practice
  • To undertake other tasks as required in line with the role.

Requirements:


Essentially the successful applicant should be motivated, driven and have the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.


Experience of supporting Children, Young People and Families and relationship-based practice to work alongside those affected by multiple adversities is essential.


  • Relevant qualification such as: SVQ, HNC or equivalent
  • Experience of interagency work.
  • Experience of working with families affected by substance use would be desirable
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle is an essential requirement for this post
