Security Engineer Investigator, Account Threats

The Account Threats team is committed to safeguarding users of Meta's suite of applications (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus) from severe account security issues. You will tackle some of the most complex and high-profile security risks faced by the company through a focus on account security. Your work will have a significant impact, potentially influencing billions of product users.

We are looking for a skilled security engineer to proactively identify and investigate the root causes of account security abuses, analyze novel malware or other malicious software, research intricate threats to our business and users, enhance investigative approaches, make data-driven decisions, and employ innovative methods to ensure people are protected from harm. The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in cybersecurity or cyber threat intelligence, able to proactively hunt for threats and automate investigative tasks using scripting languages like PHP or Python.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively hunt for threats and undetected abuse utilizing internal data, open source intelligence, and third-party private intelligence.
  • Investigate complex account security abuses and implement detection or prevention strategies to mitigate harm.
  • Reverse engineer malware to identify abusive interactions with our platforms.
  • Lead technical investigations from start to finish, communicate results effectively, and identify emerging threats.
  • Analyze data to advance investigations and quantify trends.
  • Suggest and implement new investigative techniques, collaborate with cross-functional teams to respond to threats, and automate investigative actions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, security investigations, or cyber threat intelligence.
  • Proficiency in analyzing large datasets, investigating high-impact threats, reverse engineering, and scripting languages like Python or PHP.
  • Ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop strategies to prevent abuse at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with global teams, mitigating account abuse for Web-based services, and analyzing custom protocols.
  • Deep technical and data analysis skills, expertise in cyber threat intelligence, and passion for global security risks.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, experience with open source investigation techniques, and familiarity with internet research tools.
