Citizens Advice Stroud & Cotswold Districts Ltd is a local charity which operates in Stroud under the name of Citizens Advice Stroud District and in the Cotswolds as Citizens Advice Cotswold District.


Our charity was established in 1958 in Stroud and took over responsibility for the service in the Cotswolds in December 2013.

As a local, independent charity, we are members of a national network which collectively is the Citizens Advice Service.


We help people to resolve their legal, financial and other problems by providing information and advice and by influencing policymakers.

We also provide a range of specialist casework and targeted services including debt and energy issues.

The service is free, confidential, impartial and independent. It is open to everyone.

Almost half of the population will use a Citizens Advice service at some time and we are the largest provider of debt and money advice.


Overview:


The role is as a Money Advice Caseworker specialising in advising clients with debts related to the cost-of-living crisis including providing housing advice to enable clients to secure and maintain their accommodation.

The role lies within the Stroud & Cotswold Debt Crisis Team that specialises in energy advice and financial capability. Participation in new projects may be required. You will be based in our Stroud and Cirencester offices and will be expected to attend our various outreaches.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with previous experience of providing money advice casework.

However, there may be an opportunity to be a trainee caseworker for someone that has an advice background and a willingness to learn and develop quickly.


Responsibilities:

As part of a team of caseworkers:

  • Provide advice covering the full range of debt, housing energy and financial capability issues.
  • Research and explore options and implications so that the client can make informed decisions.
  • Act for the client where necessary, drafting letters, budgets, financial statements and carrying out any calculations as appropriate.
  • Negotiate with third parties in writing and on the telephone.
  • Ensure income maximisation through the takeup of appropriate benefits.
  • Meet targets as set by the organisation for debt casework.
  • Inform the Team Leader as a matter of urgency regarding any problems in meeting targets and/or managing caseload.
  • Ensure that all casework conforms to Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold District's procedures and the Citizens Advice Quality of Advice Assessment and FCA requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic case records for continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation.
  • Take ownership for monitoring own workload e.g. proactively reviewing progress on current cases, outcome of completed cases and quality control
  • Assist in maintaining and developing effective administrative systems for good case management.
  • To act as a contributing member of the team.

Experience:

  • Recent advice work experience including knowledge of debt casework, housing law energy advice and financial capability.
  • Experience of proactively managing a high and varied workload, ensuring deadlines are met. Possess the ability to be methodical and able to work on own initiative.
  • Experience of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of people, using a variety of channels.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex information and the ability to explain it to clients clearly.
  • Good numeracy skills with the ability to carry out efficient calculations and prepare budgets for clients.
  • Demonstrable ability to use IT systems and packages, and electronic resources in the provision of advice and case recording.
  • Commitment to meet and comply with targets and quality standards set by the organisation for debt casework.
  • The ability to give and receive feedback objectively and a willingness to challenge constructively.
  • Be a Team player.
  • Understanding of the issues affecting society and their implications for clients and service provision.
  • A willingness to commit to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service and its equality and diversity policies.
