Job DescriptionPosition Overview

Reporting to the Managing Director of Teaching & Learning and collaborating closely with School Leaders and Assistant Principals across our six schools, the Director of Lower Elementary Program (DLEP) ensures that educators and leaders in our expanding network are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, mindsets, data, and resources to deliver a vibrant, rigorous academic program for K-2 students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with school leadership and the regional academic team to shape and push forward the vision for the K-2 academic program
  • Regularly analyze K-2 academic data to spot trends, strengths, and areas needing improvement, to lay out priorities, and to craft critical school and region-wide initiatives
  • Regularly oversee K-2 teaching sessions with Assistant Principals, aligning on academic standards, crucial next steps for teaching, and working as a sounding board to solve school-specific hurdles
  • Meet regularly with and train Assistant Principals and content leaders at schools to conduct effective professional development sessions on curricula/content internalization, enhancing teachers' grasp of upcoming lessons and content
  • Develop and lead top-grade professional development programs for teachers, Assistant Principals, and Principals on a range of lower elementary topics that deepen fundamental knowledge and skills, embed practice and feedback, and influence daily teaching
  • Ensure that all essential information, resources, and methodologies across K-2 are clearly communicated and organized
  • Collaborate closely with academic team counterparts to ensure program alignment across K-2 and clarity on common and individual priorities
  • Foster partnerships with local and national K-2 instruction specialists and peers through research, observation, and formal cooperation to guarantee that our K-2 program follows research-based best practices
  • Support onboarding and training for new teachers and leaders through PD planning and implementation
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Managing Director of Teaching and Learning

  • At least three years of exceptional teaching in K-2 classrooms
  • In-depth knowledge of reading science
  • Thorough understanding of K-2 Common Core standards and evidence-based best practices
  • Familiarity with national, state, and local standards and assessments
  • Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience in a central or district office, or a role that supports teachers, leaders, or the adoption of new approaches across multiple schools is highly preferred
  • Experience in coaching, training, or curricular design for teachers or leaders is a big plus
  • Completion of all required background checks

  • KPPS salaries are competitive, fair, and based on experience. The salary bracket for this role starts at $80,000
