King's Global Health Partnerships (KGHP) aims to improve health outcomes in four African countries

  • Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Zambia and DR Congo working with local partners and drawing on the skills of volunteers from the NHS and King's College London. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the development of Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems for an innovative and impactful health systems strengthening programme.
This role will be responsible for ensuring that there are systems for impact monitoring and learning across our programmes.

The appointee will support Partnerships staff, providing hands-on support as necessary to ensure that, together with our partners, we are able to track the progress of individual projects and of the organisation towards identified outcomes and strategic goals.

The MEL Adviser will continue to develop KGHP's approach to data collection, analysis and learning, ensuring that data collection efforts contribute to the strengthening of partner systems.


Working across our four partnerships, the appointee will be able to deliver and embed change in processes by building effective relationships with Partnerships staff in London and in Africa, ensuring coherence and collective learning.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 12 months.

This is a part-time post - 60% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, technical input into project design, leading the development of MEL frameworks and strategies, including outcome mapping approach, Theory of Change, logical frameworks and research at proposal stage.
  • Provide training and support to KGHP staff and project partners to ensure that information is captured in line with project frameworks and donor compliance requirements. Ensure that there are feedback loops with a view to strengthening capacity for data collection and analysis among partners.
  • Support the analysis of project monitoring data to inform adaptive management, support decision making and improve the quality and relevance of project implementation.
  • Work with the Programme Managers to facilitate internal review processes to reflect on learning with partners and support adaptive management
  • Lead the planning and oversee delivery of the summative evaluations, including developing consultant terms of reference, supervising the work of consultant(s) to ensure robust data collection and quality analysis.
  • Produce/contribute to knowledge products illustrating KGHP's impact (donor reports, concept notes, annual reports, blogs/articles).

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and implementing MEL systems, tools, processes for complex projects
  • Experience in the collecting, analysing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data and ensuring it is used to improve programming and decision making
  • Experience of training and capacity building support to strengthen the MEL skills of colleagues and partners
  • Knowledge of principles and current approaches to MEL, including outcome mapping
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative M&E approaches, tools and methods
  • A high level of written and verbal communication, including an ability to write clear and well-articulated reports
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills and ability to interact professionally with donor, project stakeholders, in-country collaborators and staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Skilled at multitasking and prioritising, working independently with mínimal supervision, leading and designing projects autonomously
