Your role and responsibilities


Eye Vet is a specialist ophthalmology referral practice with an opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) Team Leader to join our large friendly nursing team supported by Patient Care Assistants (PCAs).

Varied working areas ranging from prep, theatre, recovery, procedures and consultations.

We are looking for someone to make an important contribution to our gold standard delivery of patient care.

40 hours per week with OOH on call rota (generous OOH payments)

Key Responsibilities:

Assist and support the nursing team in the provision of gold standard of care to patients

Supervise and monitor the quality of patient and client care provided by the nursing team and raise any concerns with the Clinical Nursing Manager (CNM)

Contribute to the provision of internal SOPs and assist CNM in maintaining adherence to practice policies and SOPs

Demonstrate and maintain excellent work protocol and nursing duties

Provide support and motivation to the nursing team

Liaise with the CNM and the nursing team to ensure efficient and effective communication

Undertake the Charge Nurse role as and when needed to ensure the efficient running of the working day

Ensure that patient records are being completed accurately and that care instructions are followed by the nursing team

Assist the CNM in ensuring the efficient use of the nursing team during both busy and quiet times

Follow Stand Operating Procedures already in place and assist CNM in creating new SOPs as appropriate

Assist and provide support and training as necessary (including delegation of training to appropriate or more suitable colleagues) to ensure all members of the nursing team are trained to the highest standard

Report and encourage colleagues to report on VetSafe to target training where nursing care can be improved

Assist in in-house training of the nursing team in practice protocols and procedures

Conduct interviews with the CNM where applicable

Address any Health and Safety concerns and report them as a matter of urgency

Adhere to confidentiality relating to all aspects of the business, including complying with and assisting with all requirements relating to GDPR compliance

Ensure sufficient stock is available within the practice and that orders are placed on time, in accordance with the stock nurse where applicable

In the absence of the CNM Undertake the Charge Nurse role to include the day-to-day running of the clinic, booking of surgical appointments and emergency appointments/surgeries, assisting reception with referral queries, management of theatre efficiency and discharge times

Assist in monitoring over time

  • Ensure efficient rota management to ensure adequate cover for the nursing team to include amendments due to unforeseen absences where the rota has already been published
  • Attend SLT meetings in CNM's absence (where appropriate or necessary) to ensure nursing updates and matters are addressed to the management team
  • Report and process any instrument or equipment breakages in a timely manner.

Eye Vet is a dedicated Ophthalmology referral clinic in Sutton Weaver, Cheshire. We're conveniently located just off the M56 and close to Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales.

Our close-knit team of veterinary ophthalmologists, nurses, anaesthetists and client care are passionate about the ophthalmic treatment we provide, and we benefit from multi-disciplinary support from nearby Northwest Veterinary Specialists and the Liverpool University small animal teaching hospital.

As well as treating patients referred by primary-care veterinary practices all over the North West of England and North Wales, we also treat a variety of animals off-site, including Chester Zoo.

Our ophthalmologists share their expertise through clinical teaching and placements for final year students from the university.
