An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Quality Governance Team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

As an Associate Director of Nursing you will provide support to the Associate Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse.


The post holder will have a senior leadership role, working closely with the Associate Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse, Directors, senior leaders, clinicians and managers across the Trust to ensure that services are safe and effective.


The post holder will lead on a broad range of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and compliance activity, corporate nursing projects in liaison with other key professionals within the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

They will create an environment, which promotes and supports patient safety and high quality care.


The post holder will maintain strong working relationships with clinical colleagues and will work with the Governance Leads within each of the Care Group management structures.

He/she will have held a senior leadership role and have extensive experience in clinical governance and clinical effectiveness.

The post holder will provide cover for the Associate Director of Nursing (Risk and Safety) and deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse as required internally and externally

  • To lead on clinical governance providing specialist advice at all levels including the provision of Board papers and
  • To provide a full managerial support service directly to the Associate Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse, Chief Medical Officer
  • To prioritise and plan workload ensuring deadlines are met within agreed timescales and re
- adjusting plans to ensure competing priorities are met.

  • Working in conjunction with Chief Medical Officer Director, Associate Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse, Care Group Directors and Leads in Clinical Governance, ensure that the processes and structures to facilitate clinical governance are established and operational within the Trust.
  • To be responsible for leading and implementing the Trust's Clinical Governance Strategy, ensuring that common approaches to key clinical standards are consistent across the Trust.
  • To supports the implementation of the Clinical Services Strategy
  • Lead manage and co-ordinate Trust integrated governance systems which deliver compliance with all relevant external standards and requirements including those of the Care Quality Commission, NHS Improvement, NHS England and Human Tissue
  • To provide leadership and prepare the Trust for participation in external reviews.
  • To recognise and support good performance and challenge poor performance in a supportive, constructive and effective
  • To provide expert advice and guidance upon request on the analysis, interpretation and translation of highly complex clinical and incident information.
  • Responsible for the development, production and publication and implementation of the Trust's Quality Account.
  • Responsible for developing and embedding standardised systems and processes across the Trust for mortality review, ensuring that all relevant national guidance is fully implemented
  • Through direct engagement across the Care Groups, provide a compelling safety, effectiveness and quality vision and culture across the Trust including the development of a clinical effectiveness framework and quality assurance Support the development of a Trust approach to clinical effectiveness metrics and quality outcomes reporting.
  • This post holder will manage the clinical audit and clinical effectiveness functions and the ongoing surveillance of national trends, policy direction and best practice, anticipate future initiatives and programmes of work that the Trust may wish to consider through the clinical effectiveness and CQC compliance Including performance outcome reports against NICE, NCEPOD, new interventions and clinical guidelines
  • Provide support and challenge the Care Group triumvirate to understand the required responses to support safety, effective quality care and delivery
  • Ensure that the Trust is represented operationally and strategically from a quality governance and clinical effective
  • Commission complex internal / clinical audits and respond to findings on key clinical governance
  • Analyse and interpret highly complex data and information from a range of sources and
