Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom University of Sheffield Full time
Are you interested in developing the next generation of synthetic molecular biorecognition materials?

Applications are invited for an exciting 36-month fixed-term post-doctoral position, tenable from or as soon as possible thereafter, to conduct world-class research in the field of biophysical chemistry under the supervision of Prof.

Nick Turner in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Sheffield.

This position is part of Professor Turner's EPSRC Established Career Fellowship entitled "New Synthetic Chaperones to Enhance Protein Activity" and you will join a team of researchers exploring the boundaries of synthetic molecular recognition.

This project will involve the development of highly specific molecularly imprinted nanomaterials selective for protein targets.

The focus will be exploring the capabilities of these materials in manipulating and modulating the structure and activity of the target proteins.

The successful applicant will be located at the University of Sheffield.

They will have a strong and commensurate publication list, be a highly motivated, independent research worker and a strong team player.

This is a multi-disciplinary project and a background in one of the following would be advantageous: structural biology, biophysical chemistry, protein chemistry, biomaterials or polymer chemistry.

However, we are interested in hearing from applicants with a passion for chemistry at the biological interface, whatever their background.

A wide range of analytical techniques will be used in this work including (but not limited to) molecular modelling, Surface Plasmon Resonance, Circular Dichroism, Cryo-Electron Microscopy and Biological Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

Supervision of PhD and/or undergraduate students may be required and the ability to write high-quality first-draft scientific papers and give excellent oral presentations at international conferences is essential.

This work is highly collaborative, and you will be expected to work at other institutions for specific studies.

We're one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.

The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect.

We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
