We are recruiting for a Cemetery Clerk in Wimborne, Dorset.

  • What you will do_


As Cemetery Clerk you will provide a wide range of administrative, financial and day to day management support of the site in terms of grounds, buildings and staff, and cemetery users.


Your main responsibility is to oversee all burial requests, including allocating plots and ensure the Committee manages the Cemetery in accordance with all burial laws and practices.


  • Maintain accurate burial records and update cemetery software.
  • Maintain financial administration of the accounts using Edge software, including invoicing, payments, receipts, and income, while operating within the allocated budget and delegated authority.
  • Coordinate with Funeral Directors, contractors, and families and deliver services in a sensitive, empathetic, responsive, and respectful manner.
  • Ensure proper preparation of graves and verify internment notices.
  • Manage the tenancy of the privately rented property and allotments on the site.
  • Provide administrative support for meetings and financial administration.
  • Uphold Health and Safety policies and regulations on the cemetery site.
  • Skills and experience_
  • Excellent organisational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with Funeral Directors, contractors, and grieving families.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity, empathy, and respect while providing services to those in need.
  • Proficiency in using Edge software.
  • Prior experience in administrative or clerical roles is preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial management principles and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety policies and regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the demands of the role and handle various tasks effectively.

The job opening is expected to last for a period of 3 to 4 months. This can be a hybrid role with hours split between Wimborne and working from home. There is the possibility of part time hours for this post - please discuss your availability with Katherine.
