Job Title: Occupational Health Regulator at HSE

Collaborating with other inspectors, your main task will be to ensure that employers take necessary actions to control health risks in the workplace. This means dealing with a wide array of work-related health issues and reported occupational diseases.

Job Description:

Your role as a regulator will leverage your occupational health experience to identify risks, provide advice, and ensure employers take necessary actions. Tasks may include inspecting health risk management in engineering firms, investigating occupational diseases in bakeries, and enforcing actions when needed. Your scope will cover industries from construction and manufacturing to agriculture and the public sector.

This position will enhance your knowledge and professional credibility significantly, with support from a wide range of health and safety experts in Britain. Successful completion of the SCPHN Masters within 2 years is expected as you may be required to give expert testimony at tribunals and legal proceedings.

Training:

As part of your contract, you will enhance your occupational health experience by completing the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing PgDip and Masters. In addition, formal accredited training and legal assessments will be provided to improve your regulatory expertise for this vital role.

Key Responsibilities developed during your first two years and once you have successfully completed the SCPHN Masters:

Leading or supporting investigations of work-related health concerns and diseasesInspecting workplaces to ensure health risks are managed effectivelyProviding guidance and support to HSE colleaguesContributing to policy work and guidance in relevant areasAppearing as an expert witness at tribunals and legal proceedings

Person Specification:

Registered nurseDegree in Nursing or above3 years of experience in occupational healthDemonstrated technical expertise in occupational healthAbility to influence change at all levels in an organization

Essential Experience Requirements:

Assessment and management of health risks in the workplaceDeveloping health protection policiesManaging health surveillance and monitoring programsExperience in musculoskeletal disorders, work-related stress, and occupational diseases

Desirable Experience:

5 years of experience in occupational health

In addition to the above, this role requires making informed decisions, strong communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders. At HSE, collaboration, respect, and professionalism are highly valued.
