Principle Duties and Responsibilities1. Assisting the patient with eating and drinking.2. Assisting the patient with bathing, toileting and dressing.3. Assisting the patient with catheter and stoma care.4.

Performing, recording and reporting baseline observations e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, routineurine testing.5. Escorting patients/relatives.6. Weighing and measuring patients.7.

Receiving and directing patients and visitors.8. Responding to telephone enquiries and taking messages.9.

In the absence of the ward clerk:
filing, form filling, photocopying.10. Stock monitoring and routine ordering of ward supplies.11.

Unpacking and storing ward supplies.12. Disposing of ward waste appropriately13. Cleaning and storage of ward equipment.14. Tidying and ad hoc cleaning of spillages.15.

Responsibility to provide accurate reports to a registered nurse both verbally and electronically.16. Responsibility to ensure that all radiation guidelines are adhered to.17. Responsibility for the compliance with CCC Infection Control policies and procedures.18.

Responsibility with another member of staff to record and ensure safe storage of patient valuables on admissionand if death occurs.

Supervisory and Managerial Responsibilities1.

In collaboration with a registered nurse, participate in the induction and orientation of new staff to the ward.2. In collaboration with a registered nurse, participate in the demonstration of procedures for new staff to the ward.3. Responsibility to report all accidents and untoward incidents according to CCC policies.4. Responsibility to ensure that all patient menu cards are completed.5.


In collaboration with a registered nurse responsible for the delivery of food and nutrition to the patients ensurethat the food meets the needs of the patient and report any deficiencies to the registered nurse.6.

Responsibility to ensure that all the communication systems set up by the ward manager for all staff, other wardsand other CCC services are used effectively.

Responsibility for Resources1. Responsibility for the correct use of all supplies to ensure the effective use of the allocated ward budget. 2.

Responsibility for the safe use and cleanliness of all ward equipment.3. Responsibility to keep the ward environment clean, tidy and safe.
Decisions Made1. Responsibility to report to immediately report to a registered nurse, any change in the patients conditionincluding cardiac arrest.
Special Working Conditions1. On a daily basis have exposure to heavy weights whilst moving and handling patients and equipment.2.

On a daily basis deal with patients who have cancer.3. On a daily basis deal with relatives of patients who have cancer.4. On a regular basis deal with patients who are dying or who have died.5. On a regular basis deal with relatives of patients who are dying or who have died.6.

On a daily basis be exposed to blood or other body fluids.7. On a regular basis be exposed to unpleasant odours.8.

Deal with difficult and aggressive behaviour in support of other staff or alone on occasions when patients andtheir relatives are angry and want to complain.9.

Regularly be exposed to the possibility of cytotoxic spillages.10.

On a daily basis use a VDU for short spells.11. Either permanently or occasionally have exposure to the stress of working during the night.
