SPECIFIC PURPOSE


To work as part of Academic Leadership Team, leading on the teaching and learning of English across the whole school.


To plan and / or deliver specialist personalised English intervention to students with EHCPs both one to one and in groups.


To contribute to the provision of the highest quality pastoral support to meet the holistic needs of all students and their families and to act as tutor to an identified cohort of students.


To lead on identified areas within the Improvement Plan to ensure the school is engaged in a cycle of continuous improvement.

To plan and / or deliver specific literacy interventions to support student's development in vocabulary, reading, oracy and writing.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES


To continue the development of the English curriculum towards accreditation pathways at KS3 and KS4, i.e., Functional Skills Entry level 1 up to level 1 and 2 final accreditations, so that all students on all pathways make progress.


To lead on the English curriculum action plan and all curriculum mapping and planning and supporting staff who deliver English, both specialists and non-specialists, in their teaching and learning.

To Line manager the second English teacher and to provide supportive performance management, using the school system.

ESSENTIAL:

  • QTS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or further professional study in one or more of the following areas:
  • SEN, Literacy, SpLD, Teaching and Learning

SKILLS

  • Ability to and motivate and empower others.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multiagency team
  • Ability to assess, implement and evaluate curriculum programmes across Key Stage 3 and
  • Ability to use an appropriate range of teaching and learning strategies for whole classes, individuals and groups which stimulate, challenge engage and motivate students.
  • Ability to set clear and appropriate targets, feedback to student and make appropriate use of assessment information to promote student progress and to plan future lessons.
  • Ability to support the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team in setting and achieving challenging targets for the school, teachers and pupils
  • Ability to support effective communication within the school's community
  • Ability to support the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team in creating and maintaining and ethos of positive behaviour and discipline
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with students and families
  • Ability to reflect on own practice and evaluate individual performance
  • Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
  • Ability to manage time well and work under pressure to deadlines
  • Effective ICT skills
  • Ability to write clearly and accurately and communicate effectively with an appropriate sense of audience
