Buying Admin Assistant

Shepton Mallet, Somerset, United Kingdom field&flower Full time

Who are we?

field&flower was founded in 2011 by two friends after meeting at agricultural university, one a farmer and the other a food lover.

We are a leading UK food subscription business specialising in grass fed, free-range meat and sustainable fish.

As our business is rooted in traditional British farming, our aim is to reconnect the customer with British free-range farms and deliver award winning ethical produce without compromise.

As a market leader in D2C speciality grocery, field&flower are looking to hire a Buyer Admin Assistant to operate from our bespoke operations base in Shepton Mallet.

This position will be an integral part of our product team, reporting into the Buying & Supply Chain Manager.

Does this sound like you?

This is an opportunity to support the Supply Chain Manager with day to day buying and product management, data reporting, supplier feedback and product insight.

The successful applicant will play a key support role in the product strategy of field&flower.

We are looking for someone who is looking to take their first step in buying and analytics. You are ambitious and confident in your own recommendations with a passion for food and the farming industry.

You will have experience using Microsoft Excel and an interest in food trends and where the UK food scene is heading.

field&flower prides itself on forging its own path in the industry - managing our farmers and producers with compassion and operating in a way that builds resilience for the supply chain, is at the heart of what we do.

As such, we pioneer approaches in new product development which have sustainability, longevity, and fairness at their core.

You will understand data analysis and the strength it can have and have an eagerness to learn about the multitude of factors that go into building a functional supply chain.

Working closely with the Supply Chain Manager will be key to honing these facets.

Experience & Skills:

  • Must have an interest in food, farming, and their relationship.
  • Be proficient in excel.
  • Be a 'people person' and enjoy building relationships and be comfortable addressing concerns.
  • Be confident looking at data, drawing conclusions and making recommendations.
  • Be happy working independently and taking initiative.
  • Be meticulous, detail oriented, and thorough.

What you will be doing

This role will provide foundational research and insight to look ahead to what our customers and farmers will need in the coming months and years.

You will also manage weekly reports on sales and product performance and give recommendations of actions on a weekly and quarterly basis.

The Buyer Admin Assistant will recommend improvements in our current range and give data led insight to the NPD manager as to what market and sales trends say we should offer next.

The role will also involve daily communication with key suppliers to capitalise on their strengths in the form of shared promotion, product specification improvement and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Supply Chain Manager & Purchasing Manager to review, reinforce, and better our supply network.
  • Perform category analysis and sales/price analysis, monitoring sales trends to maintain margin targets. Own and produce the weekly sales report and give insight to improve these metrics week on week.
  • Identify broader market price trends and make recommendations for timely category review and negotiation.
  • Identify risk and pressure points in the supply chain and establish processes to mitigate said risk.
  • Work with suppliers and purchasing manager to build a routine of seasonally appropriate shared promotion through the year.
  • Sample tracking to and from suppliers and prospective partners.
  • Organising product photoshoots with QA & Purchasing Manager.
  • Be fully immersed in the specialist food industry, keeping abreast of macro trends through social media, leading editorial publications, agricultural market insight bodies, visiting relevant shows, fayres and conferences as well as competitor shopping and price analysis.
  • Niche Input and system development
  • Take on other responsibilities within the product team as and when they arise including holiday/sickness cover of time sensitive duties.
