We are looking to recruit a foreword thinking and dynamic health care assistant looking to fill an exciting new role in Orthopaedics out patient clinic.


The Senior Healthcare Assistant is a member of the Care Team appointed to support qualified nurses in the delivery of patient care and to assist them to meet their daily needs.

The post holder will be expected to undertake a broad range of activities under the direction of a professionally qualified worker.

Take personal responsibility for ensuring that Trust and Local Policies and Procedures are known and followed.


An Arthroplasty follow up Healthcare Assistant is a member of the direct care team who supports registered practitioners to deliver clinical and therapeutic care to patients as required within set protocols/policies and within the scope of the Health Care Support Worker remit.


Working within their range of skill and competence, they will:

  • Be responsible for providing wound checks, care and therapy to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner.
  • Be able to assist the nursing staff in assessing patient condition through physiological observations, Undertaking ECGS, Performing Venepuncture, Height and Weight assessments, Pain assessments and if necessary escalate any or instigate emergency procedures and escalating any concerns.
  • Report back on those delegated duties to a Registered Practitioner.
  • Act as a role model and educate new or more junior colleagues.
  • Be caring, supportive, competent and provide compassionate patient centered care that adheres to agreed quality standards.
  • Continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills. Knowledge and competences that require development will be determined within the clinical teams through assessment using National Occupational Standards

  • Participate in patient assessment (with direct supervision and after appropriate delegation from the Registered Practitioner/Assistant Practitioner), to deliver high standards of care.
  • Perform area specific clinical competencies to enhance the delivery of patient care/therapy.
  • Under supervision follow individual care treatment plans, and report any changes immediately
