Essential Requirements:

The successful Domestic Abuse Officer will have:

  • Driving license and car available for work use
  • Professional qualification for training e.g. Cert Ed or worked equivalent
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, when planned and required
  • Ability to work flexibility and deliver a 24/7 on call and help line service with others
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office packages especially developing engaging power point presentations
  • Ability to work across the geographical location of the project and travel for training and meeting purposes

The Role:


The role of DVA Officer is to design and deliver training, prevention and awareness to support the wider work of SIDAS, creating a trained, aware and informed community and workforce.

You will also deliver drop-in sessions within the community, working with colleagues to identify opportunities of joint working and co-location.

You will deliver a range of training opportunities which includes development of an accredited DVA training programme, based in best practice, national guidance, law and legislation and deliver to colleagues across Somerset including health and GP's.

You will deliver the Dragonfly community programme, and, working with colleagues, will deliver healthy relationships to both children and young people, teaching and pastoral staff.

As well as awareness training to local businesses, you will support development of their own DVA policies and processes.

You will also work with the Operational and Volunteer Managers to seek the views and voice of victims and survivors and ensure those voices are heard.

Some of the main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • I will work with the Operational Manager and other Lot Managers to develop Working Together groups, focused on voices of victims and survivors, establishing a mechanism for capturing feedback and writing/presenting reports at Board level
  • I will work with the Director of PARAGON, Regional Manager and other Managers to develop a training programme
  • I will deliver Dragonfly within the community, to individuals and businesses, building a network of champions
  • I will work with the SIDAS Strategic Manager to identify external partners who would benefit from training
  • I will coproduce a dropin session with colleagues, volunteers and people with lived experience
  • I will work with my line manager, the YOU training lead and commissioners to seek CPD accreditation for all training programmes
  • I am part of a team who develops informed and relevant training that meets the needs of SIDAS and others
  • I support volunteers to access training, working with Volunteer Manager
  • I work with and train Health colleagues and GP surgery staff to increase their knowledge of DVA, commissioned DVA services and referral pathways
  • I will work with my line manager and undertake any other reasonable tasks in relation to my role to ensure delivery of an outstanding client led service

About You:

The DA Officer will have:

  • Experience of writing and delivering training packages
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to carry out research in order to develop informed training programmes
  • Experience of effective multiagency and partnership working, personcentred service delivery and enabling client involvement
  • Knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse and how best to support victims and survivors
  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of local, regional and national domestic violence and abuse agencies
  • Ability to selfreflect and develop and improve practice through training and review
  • Ability to be innovative and creative around service development
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentational communication skills
  • Ability to work on my own and as part of a team
  • Excellent liaison and negotiating skills
