Job Title: Senior Healthcare Assistant at Mental Health Central Access Point (MHCAP)

An exciting opportunity is available for permanent Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistants to join MHCAP. The role involves providing 24/7 mental health telephone support to individuals in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, including calls from the NHS 111 service.

The ideal candidates must have experience in caring for people with mental illness, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to assess risks and escalate when necessary. Basic IT skills are required as we use electronic patient records. Candidates should work well in a team, manage their workload effectively, and be flexible within the urgent care pathway.

The job includes a rotational shift pattern, covering day, night, and evening shifts over a 7-day period to ensure full service coverage.

Main Duties:

  • Supporting highly distressed individuals.
  • Completing telephone triage and directing individuals to appropriate services.
  • Assisting registered clinicians with safeguarding and administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Level 2 qualification in functional skills Maths and English.
  • Level 3 qualification in functional skills Maths and English or completion within 6 months.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience.
  • Completion of Care certificate within 12 weeks.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of caring for individuals with mental illness.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Literacy skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of quality care and the role of a Senior Healthcare Assistant.
  • Effective use of electronic information and computer technology.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and under own initiative.
