Job Introduction Our Operational Assets Management team are specialists within asset management and are instrumental in planning, delivery and maintenance of Transport for West Midlands' (TfWM) infrastructure across the West Midlands.

The team have a brand-new opportunity for a Transport Asset Specialist to ensure that our assets including park and ride, bus stations, bus stops and highway infrastructure are managed appropriately, are fit for purpose and comply with Health and Safety standards.

Working collaboratively with various teams including the bus network team, bus stations team, CCTV and other local authorities, you will support the safe delivery of all assets.

This role offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will conduct monthly audits at sites and serve as the primary liaison for contractors and stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will be crucial in the development of capital schemes and directly overseeing the implementation of minor schemes aimed at enhancing facilities and networks.


To be successful in this role you will need a strong background in asset management, excellent stakeholder management skills and a proactive and positive attitude.

Due to the nature of this role, regular site visits will be required. Ideally you will hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide advice on the maintenance and operational aspects of capital schemes.
  • Deliver public transport and highways infrastructure projects.
  • Liaison with local authorities, local Councillors, TfWM elected Members, Members of Parliament and other stakeholders.
  • Prioritise and progress works orders in response to reported asset defects and Health & Safety Hazards to assets.
  • Work with the supply chain partners to develop opportunities for contract improvement through assessment and reporting of trial programmes.
  • Investigate complaints and insurance claims relating to TfWM managed infrastructure.
  • To investigate and provide committee reports in line with TfWM's policies on any appeals against or requests for new infrastructure including bus stops and shelters.
  • To be available on an oncall basis to deal with emergency situations, as appropriate, relating to TfWM assets.

  • Experience of Contract Management
  • Experience of managing the delivery of smallscale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of programmes & projects
  • Experience in dealing with and understanding the pressures of event organisers, commercial organisations, infrastructure scheme promoters and developers in the context of schemes and events affecting the highway.
  • An ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Good and demonstrable interpersonal, communication and customer service skills and an ability to negotiate and achieve the desired outcome.
  • Knowledge of Industry & Quality Standards for Various Works/Service Contracts
  • Ability to produce reports and present data in various formats.
