This post offers an exciting opportunity to manage and lead of Pre-treatment team across radiotherapy and proton beam therapy services at UCLH. They will promote technical developments and ensure the highest possible standard of care for patients with cancer.

The radiotherapy department delivers treatment for a broad spectrum of cancers which include a wide range of common cancers as well as specialist treatments including a paediatric and adolescent workload, brachytherapy and isotope work, total body irradiation and limb sarcoma radiotherapy. The pre-treatment suite area is equipped with a dedicated CT, Mouldroom and has access to MRI and PETCT. Radiographers deliver advanced practice for palliative virtual simulation and breast localisation. UCLH has been designated as one of two national PBT centres for the UK. The Proton Beam Therapy department will focus on the treatment of CNS tumours, head and neck cancers and spinal/pelvic sarcomas. Paediatrics, and teenage and young adults, will make up approximately one third of the patient cohort. This pre-treatment suite has a dedicated CT and MRI scanner. The post holder will be an integral part of the oncology team and they will work with other disciplines to deliver strategic projects and the development of the service. Main duties of the job This is an autonomous role where the post holder is expected to manage their own case-load and is accountable for their own professional actions and the actions of more junior staff members. The post holder will provide professional clinical leadership and effective management of pre-treatment staff, providing the highest possible standard of care for patients with cancer. The post holder will be responsible for the management of the pre-treatment suite and will have a high level of clinical expertise, ensuring the safe and accurate data acquisition. This role requires someone who is enthusiastic, confident in leadership and has significant pre-treatment experience at advanced level in complex radiotherapy imaging techniques. This post is a rotational post across the radiotherapy and proton beam therapy service, working closely with the Operational Leads of the service, other superintendents and they will be required to liaise with other professional groups and clinical staff to ensure that care is delivered in a seamless and multi-disciplinary environment in a timely and patient-focused manner. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and setting standards, ensuring that all staff are kept up to date with current techniques, providing robust training and have the ability to manage stressful situations in a calm and efficient approach. Person Specification Knowledge & Qualifications Essential
  • BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification
  • Health Profession Council (HPC) registration as a therapy radiographer.
  • Masters level experience (or equivalent) in relevant clinical subject / management studies
  • Clinical experience in pre-treatment, and mould room
  • Participation in audit/clinical governance.
Desirable
  • Clinical experience in dosimetry.
  • Management / leadership course
  • Knowledge of statistics.
  • Evidence of previous research undertaken.
  • Understanding of research governance.
Experience Essential
  • Significant postgraduate experience with specialist training and knowledge with further significant experience at Band 7 Level.
  • Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of radiotherapy techniques.
  • Leadership experience.
Skills & Abilities Essential
  • Provide specialist clinical training and undertake presentations, both within the department and nationally in conferences and workshops.
  • Plan, carry out and analyse clinical and departmental audits.
